Past visits
HOPE has been hosting visits to Monroe Correctional complex since its inception as an honors class in 2015, which offered honors students the opportunity to take a class alongside incarcerated individuals at the Washington State Reformatory. When WSR closed during the Covid-19 pandemic, these opportunities also became unavailable.
Since 2025, HOPE has began working with the Concerned Lifers Organization and offered students more avenues to visit the Twin Rivers Unit within MCC. We also help students become long term volunteers through the Community Partnership Program.
Other UW sponsored prison visits are available through the LSJ program book club, though this requires students to be registered as an LSJ major and become a badged volunteer.
