Food Access

  1. UW Emergency Food Assistance (for urgent situations)
  2. Any Hungry Husky – Food assistance programs:
    • The Bean Basket – Non-perishable bulk foods at low cost (dried oats, rice, dried fruit, spices). Bring your own container for 10% discount! Contact: ASUW Student Food Cooperative

    • Washington Basic Food (SNAP) – Holding a Work Study job is the easiest way for students to qualify

Professors and TAs often only reply to emails ending with @uw.edu. Set up your UW Google Account:

  1. Go to Manage UW Google to activate your account
  2. Create a password for your UW Google Account

  4. Access Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar with this account

How to Use MyUW

MyUW is your hub for UW essentials:

  • Home: Quarterly schedule, registration dates (check regularly – no email notification!)
  • Academics tab: Advisors, class details, textbooks, transcripts/GPA
  • Accounts tab: Tuition/fees due, Husky Card balance
  • Profile tab: Student ID, class standing, major, address

How to Use MyPlan

MyPlan helps you plan and register for courses:

  • Find Courses: Search by major, professor, keywords
  • View Academic Year: See registered courses by quarter
  • Build a Schedule: Test potential schedules to avoid time conflicts
  • Audit Degree (DARS): Track credits earned and needed for graduation

Registration Tips

Read the official registration guide first! Key tips:

  • Wake up early – registration usually opens at 6 AM
  • Prepare multiple schedules and backup courses beforehand
  • Popular classes fill up fast, even at 6 AM
  • Complete Pre-registration Steps ahead of time
  • Use UW Time Schedule or MyPlan to find courses
  • Register using SLN codes on MyUW or send courses from MyPlan to registration

How to Navigate Canvas

Canvas is where you access class materials and assignments. Sign in with your UW NetID.

Key Canvas Features:

  • Account: Set notification preferences (email and/or push notifications)
  • Dashboard: Current quarter classes
  • Courses: Access all current and past courses
  • Announcements: Professor/TA updates, Zoom links, schedule changes
  • Assignments: View and submit work (check deadlines!)
  • Syllabus: Course overview, contact info, office hours
  • Discussion: Class chatroom and graded discussions
  • Grades: Track your performance
  • Files: All course PDFs, readings, presentations
